On a windy 67 degree evening in Washington, D.C, 14,000 Nationals fans eagerly awaited the return of Stephen Strasburg. Hundreds gathered around the hometown bullpen watching Strasburg warm-up before Tuesday's game against the Dodgers.
Nationals fans-- you can rest easy. Strasburg went on the mound tonight and threw five scoreless innings, scattering two hits, with four strike-outs. The Nationals were watching Strasburg closely only letting him throw a total of 56 pitches through his five innings on the mound.
Good news is he showed no affects of Tommy-John Surgey. With a fastball that reached 97-99 MPH with regularity, a two-seam fastball that, if you want to know how good it was, just ask Matt Kemp, who didn't seem the happiest of people after seeing that pitch. Great movement on the curve, and I think a few of the Dodgers hitters are wondering where that change-up was going.
All in all great debut for Strasburg. He looks to be healthy and ready to go.
